The Arrival Part 7

The missiles hit the ships, and then the explosion happened-the smoke and light of the fire began to swirl around each ship like mini hurricanes. Then changing form into a whirlpool of golden light, and finally traveling into the cockpit of the ship. what’s going on? Darren thought. In the next instant, his eyes were filled with a blinding light from the screen he was watching. The next thing that happened was the circle of a glowing red tint on the cockpit windows of each ship.

Darren looked closer onto the vid screen, and then watched as a storm of magma erupted from the center of the red circles. After all of the smoke cleared, he saw several flaming creatures that looked like a snake’s body with a dragon’s head, and a sharp-finned spine. With bodies of sunlight, the creatures eyes were fixed at Darren’s through the camera, and the vid screen went into static.

Science Day

On Friday, I got to miss half of school for Science Day. I went to the elementary school thinking I was going to do it because my friend had forced me to. After it finished though, I was ready to go help with the next Science Day. Science Day is the day where all of the little elementary school kids get to pick scientific topics, and then go to 5 of them to learn about the topic.

My job was to be one of the little kids’ “teachers” on one of the topics. I was in a group with my friends, and we were in charge of the station “Super Soda Fountains.” We were supposed to teach the kids how the science works when mentos are put into a carbonated drink to make a chemical reactions with the pores in the mentos to make the bubbles in the drink quickly rise to the top. Or, if translated to little-kid-talk: what makes a mento and soda go boom. We ran a slideshow on the scientific method, and then took the kids outside and actually put 7 mentos in 5 different kinds of sodas to see which one went the highest.

5 teachers, 3 kids per teacher, explosions- no problem right? We had 4 sessions in total- session 1: A kid pulled the string to early, and it blew up off time, and one of the sodas fell over while blowing up. Session 2 went okay: everything went correctly, but we finished early and had to stall for 10 minutes. Session 3 was fine-ish: everything was timed perfectly, but the results were waaaay off from epwaht hey were supposed to be. Session 4 was a mess: 2 of the sodas exploded sideways and got most people wet.

Now, this was what happened, but I never said I didn’t like it-Science Day was awesome! It was so fun to hear the little kids talking about random stuff, and we had extra sodas left so I got to take home a 2 liter bottle of rootbeer!

Future City

I’ve been involved lately with the Future City Engineering Competition. It’s a project where you make a virtual city, and then make a model, essay, and city narrative to solve the years topic for the future. I did it last year and lost by less than a point. This year, with a bigger team, I’m trying again.

I went to the competition yesterday, presented perfectly, and the judges loved it. Then, the special awards judges came around ap, and the worst thing that could possibly happen, happened- the motor broke. Working under extreme pressure, I managed to replace the motor, and fix the model.

In the end, our team did okay: we didn’t win and get to go to Washington DC, but our team won an award for “Most Efficient Solution to Transportation.” In my opinion, this was the best award, for it said the we did the best job at solving this years problem of the future.

The Arrival Part 6

“What do you mean you’re gonna nuke it!” yelled Dexer. “I mean, I’m gonna nuke it,” replied Jessie “You can’t do that! ” exclaimed Darren. Jessie was the head weapons officer at SEFER, and had an attitude that annoyed Darren. The ships that had been exposed to the blood red smoke, and had crash landed in the Nevada desert. The beings inside of the ship had not yet emerged. “The land will be uninhabitable for years!” said Darren. “You make a good point,” said Jessie. “Hold in, I’ve got to make an important phone call.” He pulled his pho be out of his pocket and dialed a number. “I’m glad your were able to change his mind,” said Dexter. “Otherwise he would have fired all of those nu-.” “FIRE THE NUKES!!!” Yelled Jessie into his phone.

Five minutes later, the screen projecting the image from a satellite view of the targeted area lit up. As Darren, Dexter, and Jessie watched the explosion, they all knew hat there was no way that anything could have survived the damage caused by the nuke 🚀. As the smoke cleared, the inside of the ships began to brighten. “That’s it!” exclaimed Dexter. “That’s how the other ships in space died, so it worked!” “Ehhh, I’m gonna fire another one round, just to be sure.” Replied Jessie. “Good idea,” Dexter immediately said.

Bad idea, bad idea.

came the voice inside of Darren’s head.

DON’T LET HIM DO THAT.

The Arrival Part 5

Back on earth, Darren rushed to headquarters to share the news.”This is a scientific breakthrough!” Announced the leaders of SEFER. The next week of work for Darren was being in charge for another major voyage to the sun to extract energy from the sun. Six months later, SEFER was going to launch 100 ships, with a crew of 300 people to the sun.

When he arrived at the center of the solar system, Darren began looking for the same spot that he had been at during his previous trip. “So, why do we need to go to an exact spot on the sun?” Asked Dexter, Darren’s co-pilot, and the head engineer at SEFER. “Um, well, you see… There are different spots on the sun where the size of the coronal loops changes, and we need to be at the one that is the furthest away from the sun,” Darren replied. Dexter seemed satisfied, and they continued with their search.

After a few hours, he found the spot. “Everyone come and rendezvous with my ship, and prepare to extract the energy from the coronal loop,” Said Darren as he keyed into the comm. Then, the loop came, and just as before, it appeared more as a flaming serpent than a ring of fire. Next came the smoke, a large, thick cloud of blackness came out of the loop and covered the first 20 ships in smoke.

“The hulls have been breached!” Screamed the panicking passengers of the ships that were engulfed in the smoke. Everyone heard the coughing and gasping for air over the comm until everything fell quiet. The silence as broken by the sound of Dexter’s voice yelling, “Evacuate the area! Repeat! Evacuate the area!” No! came the voice from Darren’s head, I must not let this mission fail! Right Darren replied silently, as if having a conversation with himself. I’ll go down as the one who destroyed the best chance earth had for generating clean energy! He keyed the comm,”No! Don’t leave, it’s not safe to go anywhere else! You must stay here!” But it was already to late.

As the ships began to flee across the face of the sun in an attempt to get away from the place where the first 20 ships were destroyed, they only found themselves in more smoke, but instead of the black smoke that took down the other ships, this time is was a blood red, that somehow seemed darker than space itself. Expecting the sounds of the passengers’ gasping for air, Darren and Dexter found their ears being blasted with screams of pure horror. After about 10 minutes of this, the sound finally died down into nothing.

Being the only 2 people who had not been attacked by the smoke that day, Darren and Dexter plotted the coarse back to Earth. “You have got to see this,” Dexter said, looking out of the window. Darren came over and was amazed by what he saw. The ships that had been exposed to the black smoke began moving. “They’re headed straight for us!” Yelled Dexter. Darren quickly moved the ship out of the way, and the other ships just kept going in the same direction.

“It’s as if they’re running away from something,” commented Darren. As if on que, the other 79 ships began racing towards the fleeing vehicles. As the ships came closer to each other, a blinding light shined through the windows of the ships that had been in the black smoke. When the lights went out, all 20 ships froze, dead in space. Earth, came the mysterious voice in Darren’s head is doomed.

The Arrival Part 4

Darren woke up gasping for air. After coming to his senses, he realized it was way too hot in the spacecraft. He had been pulled towards the sun while unconscious.I have to get out of here before I’m burned to a crisp! Darren thought, but he found that his body was not listening to his mind. The next thing that happened was Darren’s memories of what he had discovered about the sun rushed back to him, and Darren began to panic.

I have to get back to Earth to let everyone know how well my experiment went, said Darren’s mind, but the thought did not come from Darren. I’ll have to bring the battery back to Earth charged,Darren thought. An instant later, a tendril as thin as string emerged from the sun and touched Darren’s device, and the power gage read at 100%. Now I’m good to go,replied the mysterious voice in his head. Darren’s body found itself prepping the controls to go back to Earth…

Game Review

I believe a already mentioned this on my ‘about me’ page, but if you didn’t already know, I’m a huge gamer. I love to find, play, test, and even program video games. Most of the time, I like to play with my friends, usually on “Clash of Clans” a strategy game where you build and defend your village, and attack other people in the world for their resources, while at the same time trying to earn trophies to make your clan the best.

I bet you could guess what my favorite themed games are, and I’m almost 100% certain that you guessed Star Wars. My top 2 favorite games are “Star Wars Battlefront II” for PC, and “Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic” a game I bought recently on my iPad that I am currently addicted to.

Both games are fun, but are different types of games. SWBF2 is a war simulation, where you fight giant battles on a variety of planets or even space, as clones, droids, rebels, Jedi, and Sith. The goal of the game is to annihilate every person on the other team, and every roll, crouch, shot, launch, and footstep is made by the push of a button, or a nudge of a knob.

KOTOR is still Star Wars, but first of all, it is in the past, and second, rather than attacking with a large army, you are a single character with up to 2 companions at a time. The goal of this game, is to help the Jedi order infiltrate the Sith, and keep them from being able to access the Star Forge, an ancient creation of unknown power. Being able to play as a scout, mercenary, republic soldier, battle droid, wookie, and even Jedi, it’s a very entertaining way to get the job done. This game isn’t about agility, or reflexes, but strategy and skill. Instead of controlling you characters every move, you must choose what actions you want to be commenced, in what order you want them to happen, and decide which character is doing what. Oh, did I mention that there are more choices of armor, light sabers, swords, grenades, shields, droid weapons (flamethrowers!!!) than I can count.

These games are both amazing and extremely addicting, and I would recommend that any gamers reading this should buy both games. Also,if you buy one of the games, please comment your thoughts on the experience.

The Right Name

Have you ever noticed that pretty much any name that you here seems to “fit” as their description? There’s rarely ever a case where you hear a name that just doesn’t sound right, or a name that you think to yourself, “they look more like a ____.” One reason I believe that is true though, is because once you’re used to saying a person’s name, it’s hard to change the habit.

In a book, you must have the right name to match with their personality. It usually doesn’t just come to you, but you must think carefully of a name that will fit the role of the character. For instance, a nerdy person would have a different name than a trouble maker. You can’t just suggest the name Ned, and say it could be used for either of those characterizations.

It took me a while to come up with the name “Darren” for my story “The Arrival” and although it”s not the best name, I think it fits pretty well. Speaking if which, I need some new names for people in “The Arrival” that have about the same personality, but with some different physical characteristics of Darren. I would love to here any ideas that anybody reading this post may have! Just comment on this post on what you think some of the character names should be. 🙂

The Arrival Continued

“I can’t wait for tomorrow,” Thought Darren as he began to walk to his car. The SEFER (space exploration for energy resources) division had accepted his idea for harnessing the energy from coronal loops, the loops of blazing matter that form on the sun’s surface due to the magnetic forces of the star. The loops would be far enough from the sun, and cool enough to extract the materials from it, and then transform the heat energy into enough electrical energy to power the entire state of Texas for an entire day.

The people in charge of the SEFER division had decided on Darren’s idea as the best months ago, but the announcement had not been made until today so that the preparation for the mission could be finished, and the scientist with the winning idea would be surprised to find that he or she would be going into space to conduct their experiment the next day. That night Darren had barely managed to fall asleep. He was up late studying experiment procedures, and the excitement of his opportunity kept him up for even longer.

The next day he was ready to go into space. After running through the checklist a billion times, it was time for launch. With newly invented technology, Darren would be put to sleep after breaking through the Earth’s atmosphere, and would wake when he reached the sun the next day. When Darren woke up, the sight was amazing. Shielded by goggles that prevented the Sun from blinding your eyes, to Darren, the sun looked like a beautiful sunset.

As Darren began to get closer to the coronal loop, something was beginning to look “off.” Instead of the loop expanding from the sun, Darren saw it as if one side of the loop was going out of the sun, while the other side was being pulled in. Kind of like how serpents or “river monsters” come out of the water.

After getting a bit closer Darren almost fainted after seeing something else, and he said to himself, “Are those…scales?!?”

Paralyzed with awe, Darren was unable to move the shuttle as the “tail” end of the coronal loop whipped up and spewed out fumes of crimson red smoke onto the ship. Able to move again, Darren tried frantically to get away, but then became paralyzed again, this time with fear, as alarms began screeching that the hull had been breached. The smoke was eating away the hull, but instead of being sucked into the vacuum of space, the smoke began invading the ship, and was being inhaled by Darren.

The next instant, Darren’s mind began fogging up, and his whole life flashed before his eyes. Darren’s entire life, from birth, to walking, winning the science fair, discovering the hardest mineral in the word- skiraine, being accepted into SEFER, and leading up to the experiment he doing right now. Then, the world went black, but Darren wasn’t dead yet…

The Arrival

All over the planet are people. A handful of these people though, are not humans. We look like them, talk like them, and we act like them. We are the same, just “different.” Except for one thing; we are connected. The regular human beings argue and fight over every little thing, but not us. Our mind is joined together, making our actions 100% efficient. Today, only one action is to be made, taking over the world. The command has been ordered, we know what has come, and slowly, the sky got darker.
